Music

St. Baldreds has a fine tradition of Anglican choral singing and currently has a regular enthusiastic and committed mixed four part SATB choir. The RSCM registered and robed choristers lead the Sunday morning worship at the Eucharist service with hymns, sung Service responses and an anthem, which is often performed a capella. Psalms are also regularly chanted.

Festivals are celebrated with special anthems and often augmented with additional choristers for the larger scale pieces. Music sung in the recent years includes excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem and Stainer’s Crucifixion. A Choirmaster/Organist directs the choir and plays our new 3 manual 50 stop organ, one of the largest in the area.

We always welcome new singers, in all sections of the Choir. We practice on Tuesday evenings from 7:15pm until 9pm and have a break from rehearsals and services in the summer, when we relax at the annual choir party. If you are interested in joining our friendly choir, please contact the Rector or come along to a practice.
